Mikayla Nester is the spitting image of resiliency: surviving childhood sex trafficking to become a leading advocate for survivors across America. As an expert advocate on over 25 types of labor and sex trafficking, Mikayla is trained to identify and respond to survivors in active trafficking situations as part of her work for the National Human Trafficking Hotline as an Anti-Trafficking Advocate.
As a survivor living with complex trauma and a dissociative disorder following familial and gang-controlled childhood sex trafficking, Mikayla uses her voice and experience to provide education on issues related to the commercial exploitation of children, mental illness recovery, and the impact of severe complex trauma on survivors.
Mikayla volunteers with a local anti-trafficking shelter and program to provide peer support groups for adult females who have exited their trafficking situation. Her passion for recovery and freedom from oppression fuel her energy to inspire and motivate other survivors to live a life they never dreamed was possible.
Outside of her advocacy work and research, you’ll likely find Mikayla training with her Baltimore-area aerial arts performance troupe, at the ice skating rink, journaling, or working on homework and research. Mikayla is currently completing her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology with dreams to pursue her PhD in clinical psychology.
Mikayla refuses to let her experiences silence her. Rather, she boldly speaks out as an advocate, survivor, and leader within the trafficking movement to help lead victims and survivors to freedom.
