LGBTQ youth are at an incredibly high risk for experiencing homelessness and sexual violence due to their sexual orientation. Approximately 40% of all homeless youth identify as LGBTQ. LGBTQ youth who are homeless are victimized by perpetrators of sexual violence at alarmingly high rates, with nearly 60% reporting that they were sexually assaulted while homeless, compared to 33% reported by non-LGBTQ youth. In this presentation, we aim to educate participants on the disparities faced by LGBTQ homeless youth, particularly related to sexual violence and sex trafficking, while using best practices to discuss how service providers can best serve this population.
